I'm a 65-dranei prot Paladin. I've tanked the bulk of my levels and only questioned for specific pieces of gear. I'm praised on what seems like every time I run. And while I will admit that i may have an above average level of knowledge for people who haven't reached the cap on level and a tank who performs the roles effectively shouldn't be so uncommon that they are praised every time they accomplish. I've had runs that were mediocre, half asleep in which I missed BOPs, missed the DS and lost a threat due to the fact that there was no tab targeting and then I was being told after the run that'man I would like every tank could be that good. This makes me feel sorry for the community and I am scared of ever making my disc priest alt I've always desired.
What's your experience generally regarding tanks in Dungeons? How often do you encounter excellent, terrible or even horrible tanks? What is the reason why tanking is so diverse in quality of performance?
Why do you believe that tanking has the most diverse characteristics of performance?
1. Everyone begins at some point. Posting a message on a forum does nothing to help anyone.
2. Each tanking class is unique and has strengths and weaknesses, which are often governed by mechanics and not the player's level of skill (i.e. Druids and Warriors both struggle to maintain the threat of AoE, whereas Paladins have a harder time however both classes are able to beat a Paladin on non-Demon or non-Undead targets).
3. MANY DPS are just trying to conquer the dungeon. They will rarely give tanks of any type enough time to create enough threat and thus, Warriors and Druids require more than Paladins for these AoE-based pulls.
4. Paladins are equipped by Blessing of Salvation while Warriors and Druids are left to dry.
5. Players aren't interested in the new tank as an opportunity to study correctly. Many players would rather throw away the tank they have purchased and get an alternative than be patient with them during the process of learning.
Do you see excellent, terrible or even terrible tanks?
The only method to approach this. The reason behind this debate is entirely subjective. There are those who say they were a tank that was terrible due to the fact that they constantly lost aggro, but they didn't say they had not viewed their own threats and/or targeting the incorrect target(s). Some healers believe that their tank was a disaster because they suffered too much damage. A tank has no control over this, and can be addressed through the technique of Crowd Control.
