How can Outpost Rush (OPR) still have significant issues after 2 years? I attempted to play 15 games for the seasonal quest, and it's disheartening to see that this mode remains flawed. In nearly every match, one team ends up spawn camping the other, often due to the advantage of having more premade groups and healers. The predominant use of muskets, bows, and fire staves by players is due to the open map, resulting in a repetitive OPR experience that hasn't changed in the past two years. It begs the question, have the developers made any genuine efforts to address these persistent flaws, aside from the recent fix for the brute?
It's baffling that this game mode has been largely unenjoyable for over a year, and it appears to have deteriorated further over time. Transforming it into a better experience seems like a straightforward task, yet it appears that little attention has been given to it.
While there are players who prioritize avoiding combat and prefer backcapping, others like me are more interested in engaging in enjoyable battles. Unfortunately, such battles have become increasingly rare, as most players opt for ranged setups or heavy builds that obstruct entry into the outposts.
One potential solution could involve closing off the entrances to the outposts, preventing ranged players from shooting into them. This change could encourage them to enter or switch to melee setups, aligning with the core spirit of New World rather than a Call of Duty-style gameplay.
Admittedly, OPR faces several other issues, including problems related to premade groups, PvE-friendly mechanics, uneven healer distribution across teams, and disparities within single teams (like having multiple healers in a single 5-man group while others have none).
However, I firmly believe that the overabundance of ranged players, with 30 out of 40 participants favoring ranged combat, remains the most significant problem in this game mode. This imbalance results in a frustrating experience, regardless of the number of block mechanics introduced. Being stuck in the outpost due to the overwhelming ranged presence or pursuing perma-hasted bow and abyss firestaff users who continually cycle through Stoneform, Burnout, and Charge is far from enjoyable.
